New Update from “The Black Flame”.  It took forever but I finally finished the background college portion.  Tried to keep it as realistic as possible to match the location where the comic takes place.  Next up: Inking and lower cover illustrations.

Hi All!  This afternoon’s post won’t be “The Black Flame” related so apologies for that.  I did, however, promise that if you followed me on my Tumblr account that I would share with you particular illustration tips and tricks not seen on my Deviant Art.  So in keeping with that promise I present the Target Greeter.

Sometimes you just doodle and doodle and then you realize you have something.  For me this was an odd week for Lunchtime draw.  I didn’t know what I was going to draw and I ended up with this.  Yesterday I colored her shirt and I couldn’t shake the feeling that she was a greeter at a Target, so oddly enough, I’ve drawn a greeter from Target.  Not the usual subject of my art but I’m not one to complain.

There are multiple pictures here and you can see the limited progress I make each day during lunch.  I have to restrict these drawings to a short amount of time because I am at work (at least my day job) and it would be wildly unprofessional to work on this outside of lunch.

The last photo is really the one I wanted to share with you all today.  It shows a scale that I picked up from Mark Crilley (http://www.youtube.com/user/markcrilley) who is a much better anime illustrator and teacher than I.  Mark says that your anime girls should be about 7 heads height tall.  You can see where I laid out my photoshop guidelines to match.  I don’t know if Mark supports this or not, but I feel that if you vary your sections slightly (so each section of 7 isn’t exactly the same size) you can get good variation between your characters.

Well this was a big post, so thanks for sticking with it and have a great weekend everyone!
